YOGA AND SURFING IN BALI

Surf. Stretch. Recover. Repeat.
Why yoga and surfing fit so naturally into the same Bali trip.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A YOGI

You don’t need to touch your toes, know Sanskrit or have years of yoga experience. On a surf trip, yoga can simply be time to move, breathe and reset after being in the ocean.

And if you’re learning to surf, that slower hour can be a welcome contrast to the excitement — and effort — of catching waves.

1. SURFING USES MORE OF YOUR BODY THAN YOU EXPECT

Paddling, popping up, balancing and repeatedly getting back onto your board can feel surprisingly physical when you’re new to surfing.

A well-paced yoga practice can complement that routine with mobility and controlled movement, particularly around areas surfers use repeatedly.

2. BODY AWARENESS MATTERS ON A SURFBOARD

Beginners often know what the coach has asked them to do but struggle to feel where their body actually is during a fast pop-up.

Yoga gives you time to notice balance, weight distribution and movement at a much slower speed. It won’t replace surf coaching, but the awareness can complement what you practise in the water.

3. NOT EVERY SESSION NEEDS TO BE INTENSE

A surf holiday doesn’t need to become a fitness boot camp. Some days your body will want movement; other days it may want something gentler.

Yoga can create that change of pace. The goal isn’t to “fix” soreness or guarantee recovery — it’s to give your body and mind a different kind of session.

GOOD TO KNOW

If you have an injury or medical concern, tell your instructor and follow appropriate professional medical advice rather than pushing through pain.

4. SURFING IS MENTAL TOO

Learning to surf can bring excitement, frustration, nerves and the occasional moment where nothing seems to work.

A yoga class gives you an hour where catching a wave is irrelevant. You slow down, focus on what you’re doing now and come back to surfing with a fresh head.

WHY COMBINE THEM IN BALI?

Bali makes it easy to build a holiday around both. In Uluwatu, surf culture and wellness sit naturally alongside beach days, cafés and slower afternoons.

You can make surfing the adventure and yoga the pause between sessions — without turning your trip into an intense wellness retreat.

That balance is the point.

WHAT SURF + YOGA LOOKS LIKE AT OUR CAMP

Our Balance Package combines semi-private surf coaching with daily yoga, accommodation and shared meals. Surf sessions are organised around conditions and level rather than forcing everyone onto the same wave.

Yoga is part of the rhythm of the stay, but you don’t need to arrive with any yoga background. Come for the surfing, the yoga, or simply because you like having both available.
