WHAT TO PACK FOR A SURF CAMP IN BALI
Your first surf trip doesn’t require a suitcase full of surf gear.
Here’s what is actually useful for Bali, the beach, yoga and your time in the water.
PACK LIGHTER THAN YOU THINK
If you’re a beginner joining a surf camp, you usually don’t need to buy a surfboard or build a technical surf wardrobe before your first lesson.
At Surf & Yoga Uluwatu, surf equipment is included in our Balance Package. Bring the personal essentials that make tropical days comfortable and let the camp handle the surf setup.
FOR SURFING
✓ Two or three swimsuits / boardshorts
✓ A rash guard or surf top if you prefer your own
✓ Reef-safe sunscreen where available
✓ A reusable water bottle
✓ Sunglasses and a hat for time out of the water
✓ A small beach bag
Multiple swimsuits are surprisingly useful when you’re surfing regularly — putting on yesterday’s still-wet suit at sunrise is not everyone’s favourite Bali ritual.
FOR YOGA & SLOWER DAYS
✓ Comfortable clothes you can move in
✓ Lightweight T-shirts / tops
✓ Shorts or breathable trousers
✓ Easy sandals or flip-flops
✓ One light layer for air-conditioned travel or cooler evenings
There’s no need for a perfect yoga outfit. Bring something comfortable enough to move and relax in.
FOR TROPICAL BALI
✓ High-SPF sunscreen
✓ Insect repellent
✓ Personal toiletries
✓ Any personal medication you need
✓ A compact rain layer, especially during wetter months
✓ A plug adapter if your devices require one
✓ Copies of important travel documents
You can burn quickly in tropical sun, especially around water. Reapply sun protection according to its instructions and use shade or protective clothing when needed.
WHAT BEGINNERS PROBABLY DON’T NEED TO BUY
A surfboard: learning on appropriate equipment is more useful than buying a board before you know what works for you.
A collection of fins and surf accessories: save that rabbit hole for later.
Expensive surf fashion: it will not improve your pop-up.
If your package includes equipment, confirm exactly what is provided before spending money or paying airline board-bag fees.
DON’T FORGET THE BORING BUT IMPORTANT STUFF
Before travelling, check the current Indonesian entry requirements that apply to your nationality and trip. Keep your passport, travel-insurance details and backup payment method accessible but secure.
If surfing or riding a scooter is part of your plan, read your insurance policy’s activity and vehicle conditions rather than assuming they are covered.
